I fell in love
I love what I do! I originally wanted to be an optometrist, but discovered that opticianry was the best way for me to work with my hands (which I really enjoy) and to help people feel good about themselves. Shortly after I became an optician, in 2001, I met Klaus Sebök. I loved his store and saw that designing and creating custom and handmade eyewear was the way I could express my creativity as well. Here was an opportunity to work with absolutely unique eyewear that gives the wearer confidence and pride in their look.
I fell in love with Granville Eyeland and, in 2008, I became the owner of this special place. It is my greatest pleasure to help my customers create their own statements with the frames that they wear. I look forward to meeting you and showing you why I fell in love.

My passion
Growing up in Germany I knew there was something about art that enchanted me. My mother encouraged me to apprentice as an optician (I think she wanted me to get a “real” job). While I was apprenticing, I learned to make frames from scratch. Who knew that from this skill my passion would be born? After my apprenticeship, I put honed my skill making frames in Switzerland and South Africa and began to love design even more.
When I decided to come to North America, I worked with several prestigious companies, designing and making frames out of everything from horn to gold. When it was time to strike out on my own, I opened Optique 2000 on Robson Street. Our first customer was Robin Williams, who was in town filming a movie when he came across the almost-wireless rims he loved. We draw famous personalities to this day.
But as much success as I had, I wanted to be on Granville Island, where I knew that people would appreciate my craftsmanship even more. It took 17 years, but since we’ve been here, we never looked back.
When Sara Moshurchak and I met, I knew she had the talent and the drive and to take over Granville Eyeland — and now she has. Together with Sara, I continue to design, as well as to see Sara grow as a designer and owner.
