About Granville Eyeland Framemakers
At Granville EYELAND Framemakers we hand make custom eyewear. As the only frame maker in Canada, we pride ourselves in creating some of the most unique eyewear Vancouver has ever seen: designs which are valued by people who know that eyewear helps express creativity and personality.
Searching the world for the most innovative designs and technology allows us to offer a wide variety of eyeglasses in Vancouver from acetate, to stainless steel, and titanium. For the eyeglass connoisseur we also offer our one-of-a-kind custom eyewear designs; and hand made frames crafted from gold, silver, antique tortoise shell, African water buffalo, and wood.
Inspiration for our Vancouver optical shop began with the creative mind of German-born eyewear designer Klaus Sebök when he made his home in here over 40 years ago. After running one of the most avant garde luxury boutiques in Vancouver (called Optique 2000 on Robson Street), Klaus decided to take advantage of an opportunity to start a new concept store on Granville Island and in 1994 opened up Granville EYELAND Framemakers. Here he designed and created his own eyewear and continues to design today.
While in her Optician program at Douglas College, Sara Moshurchak met Klaus when he came to do a seminar on soldering. She was so inspired by his passion for what he does that she actually turned to her friend and said “I’m going to own that guy’s business one day.” So after graduating, Sara approached Klaus about working at Granville EYELAND Framemakers and has worked alongside him since 2001, first as an Optician, then finally taking over the business in 2008.
She continues on the tradition of designing and hand making her own eyewear as well as finding the most unique products for her clients through her Vancouver optical shop. To Sara, eyewear represents the image of a person and the finishing touches of a wardrobe, therefore, if eyes are truly the windows to the soul, why not dress them accordingly?
We have developed an international following. Customers from Switzerland, Dallas, France, Japan, Australia and the Caribbean all want our original designs.
Our very first customer was Robin Williams, who was in town filming a movie when he came across the almost-wireless optical eyeglasses frames he fashions today. Other famous customers include Elton John, Steve Martin, Ed Asner, James Tupper, Nathan Fillian, Alan Cumming, Bruce Springsteen, Ra McGuire of Trooper, The Lover Boys and Vancouver’s media personalities, Pia Shandel, Alan Fotheringham, Doc Harris and the current leader of the NDP, Adrian Dix.
Sara has recently opened up a new space called MOSHdesigns: eyewear studio + lab in Gastown – now you can actually see our optical eyeglasses frames in full production! We are the only optical in Vancouver that hand makes our own eyewear. (And the only one in Canada! A true Vancouver gem.)
